Judge blocking crucial evidence – Atta Akyea cries foul in Adu Boahene trial

Lawyer for former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Charles Adu Boahene, Samuel Atta-Akyea, has accused the Attorney General’s office of deliberately withholding crucial evidence in his client’s ongoing trial.

According to Mr. Atta-Akyea, the prosecution failed to disclose 83 pages of a bank statement that he insists are critical to Adu Boahene’s defence.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Friday, August 29, he alleged that the missing documents have created what he described as a “deficit of evidence” in the case.

“The Attorney General withheld about 83 pages of a bank statement that the Attorney General has filed before the court. So you could see a deficit of evidence by what the Attorney General filed before the court,” he stated.

Mr. Atta-Akyea further criticized the trial judge, alleging that the court blocked the defence team’s access to vital information necessary for cross-examining prosecution witnesses.

“The judge didn’t want them to bring it. This is where we are, fact.

“These are all facts if you are a journalist following this story, and that’s why we’ve appealed the decision of the judge that the judge should not block evidence that the accused persons require to prepare their defence and even use those pieces of evidence to cross-examine the witnesses who are being called,” he explained.

The legal battle, which has already sparked significant public interest, revolves around allegations against Charles Adu Boahene during his tenure as NSB Director General.

With the defence team challenging the court’s ruling, the case has now taken a dramatic turn as they seek to overturn the decision and compel the release of the withheld documents
