President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Sahara LPG Vessel, describing the development as a major step toward strengthening Ghana’s energy infrastructure and supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the President said the event was more than a ceremonial occasion, stressing that the vessel represents a significant milestone in strengthening the infrastructure that supports the global liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply chain.
According to him, access to reliable energy and the shift toward cleaner energy solutions remain some of the defining challenges of the modern era. He noted that LPG continues to play a critical role in the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

He added that Ghana, like many countries in the region, recognizes the transformative potential of LPG in driving socio-economic development while expanding access to cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.
The commissioning of the Sahara LPG Vessel is expected to enhance LPG distribution capacity and strengthen the country’s efforts to ensure reliable and sustainable energy supply.
