American rap superstar Cardi B has shared how a Ghanaian hairstylist influenced her perception of Ghana and introduced her to local music, including dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, whom she described as “the biggest Ghanaian artist.”
Speaking in a conversation circulating online, Cardi B recalled her close relationship with the hairstylist, saying the woman often treated her like family and even advised her on her behaviour.
“My hairstylist, she was like a Ghanaian lady… she used to treat me like if I was her kid. She used to be like, ‘stop cursing, you need to stop cursing,’” Cardi B said.
The Grammy-winning rapper explained that before visiting Ghana, her hairstylist frequently spoke to her about the country and introduced her to Ghanaian music.
According to Cardi B, the hairstylist played songs by Shatta Wale and described him as one of the biggest names in Ghana’s music industry.
“She started playing music… and she said he’s like the biggest Ghanaian artist,” Cardi B recounted.
The comments have sparked conversations among music fans online, with some agreeing with the assertion due to Shatta Wale’s influence and international recognition, while others argue other Ghanaian artistes equally deserve the title.
Cardi B visited Ghana in December 2019 for the Livespot X Festival, a trip that generated massive excitement across the country and strengthened her connection with Ghanaian culture and entertainment.
Shatta Wale and Cardi B have previously interacted publicly, with the Ghanaian musician being among local celebrities linked to the rapper during her visit to Ghana.
