INTERPOL has quietly removed the Red Notice issued earlier this year for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, a move that has intensified scrutiny on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
For months, the OSP publicly portrayed Ofori-Atta as a fugitive and pushed for an international alert even before filing any charges in court.
However, after his lawyers petitioned INTERPOL, arguing the request was politically motivated, outside INTERPOL’s mandate, and filed without formal charges, the Red Notice disappeared from the system.
Analysts say the situation is embarrassing for Ghana, warning that misuse of INTERPOL’s mechanisms can damage the country’s reputation.
The former minister now faces fresh charges by the OSP linked to alleged financial losses in projects such as the National Cathedral and the GRA-SML contract.
The removal of the notice signals a shift from public drama to legal scrutiny, where evidence, rather than headlines, will determine the next chapter of the case.
