Valentino Nii Noi Nortey
Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania, USA after allegedly stabbing his wife during a domestic dispute.
According to the Lower Paxton Township Police Department, the incident occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at a residence on Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg.
Authorities say emergency responders found a woman with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition. Police emphasised that the situation was isolated and posed no danger to the wider community.
The case has quickly moved beyond a routine criminal matter because of Nortey’s political profile. Once regarded as a rising figure within the NPP, he contested parliamentary elections in one of Ghana’s most competitive constituencies. His involvement in such a serious criminal allegation abroad inevitably attracts intense public scrutiny.
Nortey now faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide, possessing an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
These are grave accusations under U.S. law and carry potentially severe penalties if proven. Online court records confirm that he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail.
The denial of bail tells the seriousness with which American authorities are treating the case. Nortey is currently being held at Dauphin County Prison while investigations continue. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 26, 2026, where prosecutors will present evidence to determine whether the matter should proceed to trial.
For the NPP, the development is deeply uncomfortable.
