Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications for the United Party, has weighed in on the ongoing Iran–US/Israel conflict with a pointed jab at the opposition New Patriotic Party.
Speaking on the matter, Owusu suggested that had the NPP been in government, Ghanaians would have been slapped with yet another levy, this time, an “Iranian levy.”
His comments tap into the widespread criticism of the previous administration’s tendency to introduce special levies for various purposes, from the Sanitation Levy to the now-infamous National Cathedral fundraising appeals.
While the remark was made in a light-hearted tone, it carries a familiar critique: that the NPP’s approach to governance often involved creating new financial burdens for citizens.
Whether intended as satire or serious political commentary, Owusu’s statement has sparked chuckles and nods across social media.
