Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has been officially removed from office by President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Ofosu explained that constitutional provisions prevent the government from disclosing the specific reasons behind her removal.
“I am not permitted by law to make any disclosures beyond the fact that the President has complied with the recommendations of the committee,” the Minister for Government Communications stated on Channel One TV’s Akwatia Watch programme.
According to Mr. Ofosu, the President acted strictly in line with the 1992 Constitution. He pointed to Article 146, which bars public disclosure of committee proceedings in matters involving the removal of a Chief Justice.
He further revealed that the necessary formalities had been completed, including notifying Justice Torkornoo through official channels.
“But the Chief Justice has been officially informed of her removal and the reasons behind it, in a letter sent through the President’s Secretary. A warrant, as prescribed by Article 146, was also issued,” Mr. Ofosu disclosed.
