The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak that gutted the Asofan Market near West Hill in Accra in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The GNFS said it received a distress call at 12:13 a.m., leading to the swift dispatch of three fire engines from the Amasaman, Adjen Kotoku, and Anyaa Fire Stations.
The first team of fire officers arrived at the scene at 12:42 a.m., managed to bring the situation under control by 2:10 a.m., and completely extinguished the blaze at 3:17 a.m.
Eight containers filled with assorted goods, along with several wooden structures, were destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters, however, managed to salvage multiple shops and prevent the blaze from spreading further, averting what could have been a massive disaster.
No casualties were recorded, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.
