The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the conviction of three Nigerian nationals arrested for stealing from parked vehicles within the Kumasi Metropolis.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, confirmed in a statement that the suspects — Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze — were arrested on 20th June 2025 and successfully prosecuted.

“This successful prosecution underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting life and property, and working with the judiciary to ensure that criminal elements, particularly those involved in organized and transnational crime, face the full rigours of the law,” DSP Ahianyo stated.

During court proceedings at the Atasemanso Circuit Court on 22nd July 2025, Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL). The other two suspects pleaded not guilty at the time.

However, on 23rd July 2025, both Francis Friday and Linus Agwazie were found guilty on two counts each and sentenced to 8 years IHL. Additional charges heard the same day resulted in 20-year concurrent sentences for all three convicts.

Russell Ekenze was further convicted on 24th July 2025 at Circuit Court 2, receiving another 10-year IHL sentence, which will run concurrently with his existing term.

DSP Ahianyo urged the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts:

“We encourage the public to cooperate with the police by reporting suspicious activities and providing timely information to aid in crime prevention and public safety.”
