The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially apologized to President John Dramani Mahama through the national leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following threatening comments made by some NPP activists.

During a meeting between the leadership of both parties, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong condemned the remarks, describing them as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

He emphasized that the party does not support or condone such behavior.

The NPP’s visit was aimed at de-escalating tensions and reaffirming its commitment to peaceful political engagement ahead of the upcoming elections.

“Indeed, there are certain comments that are made by what we call foot soldiers to the leadership of the party. Such unfortunate condemnable statements, but the leadership of the Council distances itself from it and want you and the government to know that is not the position of our party,” Mr Kodua said.

He explained that, “after this incident, we have seen that some of these comments coming from NDC and NPP, some are claiming that the NPP are behind it and some are even saying that they were even expecting some other people to have died. These things are not good for our democracy. Death is something that even your worse enemy you shouldn’t even wish for them.

The General Secretary noted that “…if anything came from our side, I want to on behalf of our party apologise to the NDC through you to his excellency the President John Dramani Mahama. It is not the position of the NPP and we will never condone such activity.”

Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia also expressed grave concern about threats and counter threats from the youth.

“Threats and counter threats from these young men, we as a party in government will ensure that we nib this in the bud,” he said.
