The Minister for Communication, Digital Innovation and Technology, Sam Nartey George, has said that Ghana’s broadcasting laws are being reviewed by the government to reflect the realities of digital convergence, where radio, television, and internet-based platforms now overlap within a single ecosystem.
Speaking at the “Broadcasting at the Crossroads” forum organised by the Africa Media Bureau at the Alisa Hotel on Friday, September 26, 2025, the Minister stressed that the shift in technology and consumer behaviour demands a new regulatory paradigm.
“This forum is at a time when there is demand for affordability, quality and fairness of broadcasting services. A new paradigm is required moving forward. The Ministry of Communication is reviewing Ghana’s broadcasting framework to reflect the realities of digital convergence,” he said.
Mr. George noted that his ministry will collaborate with the Ministry of Government Communications and other key stakeholders to revisit the Broadcasting Bill, ensuring it adequately captures the complexities of today’s media environment.
He further indicated that the government, through the National Communications Authority (NCA), is also working to enforce compliance with conditions tied to broadcasting authorisations, as part of efforts to sanitise the sector.
The forum brought together regulators, policymakers, and industry players to explore how Ghana’s electronic media landscape can be reshaped in line with international best practices.
