The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has warned President John Mahama that illegal mining, aka galamsey, is destroying the nation’s environment, corroding its governance, and threatening the very soul of Ghana. “Illegal and unregulated mining, commonly known as galamsey, has become one of the gravest afflictions of our time. It ravages our rivers and forests, poisons our soil, endangers public health, corrupts governance, erodes our moral fibre, and extinguishes livelihoods. “This is not a routine challenge to be managed with half-measures; it is a national emergency requiring decisive, extraordinary response,” the Bishops said. The statement issued on Monday, September 15, was…
Trust Stamp has signed an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ghana’s National Identification Authority (NIA) to provide tokenised identity services aimed at boosting the country’s digital identity infrastructure. The agreement, announced on Monday, September 15, 2025, in a press release grants Trust Stamp an initial two-year exclusivity period, extendable by mutual consent, to work with the NIA in developing a comprehensive long-term contract. The arrangement will focus on digital identity implementation and tokenisation services, supported by a revenue-sharing model. The NIA maintains Ghana’s National Identity Register (NIR), which houses biometric and biographic data of citizens and eligible residents. The…
The Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has raised alarm over the escalating cost of contesting presidential elections, warning that democracy risks being captured by the wealthy elite. At an Open Society forum in Accra, the think tank’s Executive Director, Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh, revealed that it now requires an estimated $200 million to mount a successful presidential campaign in Ghana. He argued that such financial demands make it nearly impossible for capable but less resourced leaders to compete. “You now need about $200 million to win a presidential contest. How many of you can ever realistically be in that…

Speaking on Angel FM, the artist revealed that he contacted Abena Moet with hopes of appearing as a guest on the show, only to be asked for a “token” payment that she claimed was needed by the program’s producer. “Upon reaching out, the musical artist claims Abena Moet requested a token, with claims that the producer of the show needed that,” Kyei Nwom stated during the interview. Eager to secure…
Gospel musician Piesie Esther has firmly denied rumors of a rift with fellow artist Empress Gifty, following social media speculation about tension between the two award-winning musicians. The clarification comes after a recent interview on Power FM where Piesie initially hesitated to name Empress Gifty as the winner of the 2025 Ghana Music Awards USA Artiste of the Year award. When asked if she had congratulated her colleague, Piesie noted that nobody had congratulated her when she won the Ghana Music Awards Europe Artiste of the Year in 2023. Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Piesie explained her reluctance: “The…
British actor Owen Cooper has become the youngest male performer ever to win an Emmy Award, claiming the best supporting actor trophy for his role in Netflix’s critically acclaimed drama “Adolescence” at just 15 years old. Cooper broke the 52-year record previously held by Scott Jacoby, who was 16 when he won in 1973. The young actor earned the award for his portrayal of a schoolboy accused of murdering a classmate in the four-part limited series that dominated Sunday night’s ceremony. “Standing up here is just, wow, it’s just so surreal,” Cooper said in his acceptance speech. “When I started…
Former Deputy Attorney General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has criticised Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine for describing the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) as partisan and “self-serving.” Dr. Ayine, speaking at the GBA’s Annual Conference in Wa on September 15, accused the Association of inconsistent advocacy, claiming it had failed to show fairness on constitutional matters. He cited the GBA’s silence during the removal of former Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, compared to its vocal opposition to the recent removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. In response, during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on September 15, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah argued…
Saviour Kudze, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has renewed calls for urgent reforms to Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, stressing that the current provisions on the removal of superior court judges are inadequate. Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, September 15, in response to the fallout from the GBA’s Annual General Conference in Wa, Mr. Kudze said the lack of comprehensive rules risks undermining fairness and transparency in such proceedings. “We’re saying that it is not detailed enough (Article 146). It could have been more comprehensive,” he said. Mr. Kudze questioned the reluctance of successive…
Beyond his critique of Judge Samuel Bright Acquah, Martin Amidu turned his attention to Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine, warning that his inaction is tarnishing the government’s image. “So many unpleasant things are happening under your watch within the short period you have been the Attorney-General. Judge Samuel Bright Acquah has already done enormous damage to the image of the NDC government under your watch,” Amidu cautioned. He stressed that political cases were being mishandled, with suspects remanded unnecessarily, creating the impression of persecution. “No Attorney-General must allow the police and inferior courts to mess the government up with cases involving…
