The Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the 2025/26 harmonised prospectus for Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical Institutions across the country, a move aimed at standardising requirements for all first-year students.

Referred to as the National Prospectus, the document sets out a uniform list of items that students are expected to bring, with schools strictly prohibited from demanding additional materials outside of what has been officially approved.

According to the GES, the measure is designed to ease the financial and logistical burden on parents by ensuring they can plan ahead without waiting for the rollout of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) before making purchases.

The prospectus has been grouped into three broad categories. Category A outlines 27 basic items for boarders, including a hard-body suitcase or trunk, chop box, toiletries, beddings, footwear (school-specific sandals, slippers, and sneakers), underwear, cutlery, a school bag, and key academic tools such as a mathematical set and scientific calculator.

Day students are expected to present fewer items, including sandals, sneakers, a school bag, and essential study tools.

Additionally, all students—both boarders and day scholars—are required to provide cleaning materials for their schools.

These items are divided into three optional groups, with each student expected to purchase items from at least one group.

Options include items like hand gloves, washing soap, liquid soap, bleach, dustpans, scrubbing brushes, mops, and brooms.

The GES stressed that all personal belongings must be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name for easy identification.

GES PRO, Daniel Fenyi, who announced the release, reiterated that the harmonised prospectus is part of ongoing reforms to streamline operations in schools, promote equity, and prevent institutions from overburdening parents with long and sometimes unnecessary shopping lists.
