Andy Appiah-Kubi, legal counsel for Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has confirmed that the recent withdrawal of charges against Edward Akuoko, General Manager of Akonta Mining Company Limited, will not alter their approach to the ongoing case.

Speaking to reporters immediately after court proceedings, Appiah-Kubi said the defense has been formally served with the notice of withdrawal.

“They have come under the rules of law, so they have every right to do so. We are going to prepare our case when they are ready. It doesn’t change our position,” he stated.

He added that the legal team remains committed to proving the innocence of their client, emphasizing that the case will be pursued with professional rigor.

The withdrawal of charges against Akuoko, who was expected to be a prosecution witness, will not affect the strategy of the defense.

“We will come to prosecute the case religiously, to the best of our professional expertise,” Appiah-Kubi affirmed.

The lawyer also addressed the role of the Attorney General as Minister for Justice, noting the importance of ensuring that justice is served for all accused persons until proven guilty.

He cautioned against any actions that could be perceived as undermining the judicial process and signaled that the defense will resist attempts that compromise the integrity of the trial.
