Training for the first cohort of 10,000 young entrepreneurs of government’s flagship programme, ”Adwumawura” has started.

The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the onboarding and orientation ceremony in Accra on Thursday October 2, said the nation is determined to invest in people, with young persons being the main target.

The Adwumawura Programme is a government initiative aimed at empowering 10,000 young entrepreneurs annually. The duration of the programme is five weeks.

People between the ages of 18 and 35 under the programme will receive advice, mentorship, and support to develop and sustain start-ups, as well as capital to grow their businesses.

The programme’s onboarding and orientation ceremony for beneficiaries held at the University of Ghana, marked a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards inclusive economic development.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang said the programme is an intentional one to invest in people, particularly the youth.

“We are making a statement that the nation is determined to invest in our young people, who remain our greatest resource,’’ the Veep stated.

She urged the beneficiaries to lead the charge in innovation and transformation.

“Let me remind our beneficiaries, this opportunity is only the beginning. What will make the difference is commitment, discipline, honesty, and flexibility. There will be challenges and setbacks. No business, no matter how successful, is free from these. What will set you apart is how you rise above them and continue to innovate,” she noted.

Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, NEIP, Eric Adjei, said helping the youth create and innovate is key for development.

Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, said they are working at making the Adwumawura a national programme.

He launched a training manual that would guide the trainers and trainees.

A dedicated sum of 100 million has been allocated for the programme in the 2025 budget.
