Artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Bullgod, has reaffirmed his belief that Shatta Wale is still Ghana’s undeniable Dancehall king.
Bullgod, the former manager of Shatta, was asked by a viewer during an interview on Joy Prime to identify the person he believes to be the actual monarch of the genre.
He claims that despite Stonebwoy’s extraordinary talent, his style is more Afro-dancehall than traditional Dancehall.
Bullgod stated,
Shatta has always stayed loyal to the pure Dancehall sound. Stonebwoy also does brilliantly, but he himself identifies with Afro-dancehall. For the real Dancehall crown, you cannot take it away from Shatta. He has worn it and defended it for years. The evidence is there, and it cannot be denied,
His remarks coincide with a resurgence of discussion on the roots of Afro-dancehall and the identity of its coiner.
In a different interview on the same platform, Stonebwoy clarified that while the style was not new, he was the one who first used the phrase “Afro-dancehall.”
He also recognised Samini’s work, calling him the real forerunner of African Dancehall.
“My African Dancehall king is one and only Samini. With all due respect and with full conviction, he holds that title. The accolades prove it — he was Ghana’s first MOBO award winner, which says it all,” Stonebwoy
