Kumawood Producer Jackson K. Bentum Sparks Debate Over Remarks on Faith

Renowned Kumawood film producer and director Jackson K. Bentum has sparked public debate following comments he made about faith and religious practices during a radio interview.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Bentum questioned conventional views on religion and criticised what he described as practices within some churches that, in his view, negatively affect families.

“God is nowhere… humans are the real gods. He is nowhere for you to fetch water or pay his light bills,” Bentum said during the interview.

The filmmaker also expressed strong opposition to religious teachings that label family members as witches, saying such claims would immediately drive him away from any place of worship.

“There is no way I will go to church and you tell me my mother is a witch. I will leave that church the same day,” he said.

Bentum’s comments, which have since circulated widely on social media, have drawn mixed reactions from listeners and members of the public, with some defending his right to express personal views, while others described the remarks as controversial.

The Kumawood producer, known for his contributions to the Ghanaian film industry, did not call for people to abandon religion but emphasised personal responsibility and respect for family values.
