Taylor Swift has officially put to rest a fan theory suggesting she plans to quit music after marrying NFL star Travis Kelce, and she did so in classic Swift style, direct, witty, and unapologetic.
During an interview on BBC Radio 2 with host Scott Mills, the pop icon was asked whether her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, would be her last as she prepares for marriage. Swift didn’t mince words in her response.
“That’s a shockingly offensive thing to say,” she told Mills.
“It’s not why people get married, so that they can quit their jobs.”
Mills explained that fans had been speculating that Swift might slow down her career to focus on her relationship.
The singer brushed off the rumors with a laugh, saying, “They love to panic sometimes.”
Released on October 3, The Life of a Showgirl marks Swift’s 12th studio album, a 12-track project produced by Max Martin and Shellback that has already sparked a wave of online reactions and critical debate.
Addressing her commitment to music, Swift emphasized that her relationship with Kelce is built on mutual respect and shared passion for their respective crafts.
“It’s like, I love the person that I am with because he loves what I do, and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music,” she said.
“That’s the coolest thing about Travis, he’s so passionate about what he does that me being passionate about what I do connects us.”
“There’s no point in time where he’s gonna be like, ‘I’m really upset that you’re still making music.’
“Imagine him saying, ‘The music that I signed up for, that I knew you love, I thought you were going to stop doing that.’”
Swift confirmed her engagement to Kelce on August 26, sharing photos of the proposal on Instagram with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
