The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects over an alleged plot to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.

The arrests followed intelligence received on October 11, 2025, indicating a plan to eliminate the Chief ahead of his maiden Royal Durbar scheduled for October 17 in Akyem Kwabeng. Acting on the tip-off, a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) launched a covert operation to infiltrate the group believed to be behind the plot.

During the operation on October 12, the prime suspect, 47-year-old Emelia Akua Asor, allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to execute the assassination of both Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II and a woman believed to be the newly installed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.

According to the police, Emelia instructed a second suspect, 48-year-old Butuakwa Seth, to accompany the undercover operatives to Akyem Kwabeng to identify the Chief and the Queen Mother’s residence. Seth reportedly led the officers to the targeted locations and handed them a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the planned attack.

Police sources said the suspects also promised an additional GH₵50,000 payment after the successful execution of the plot.

Both suspects have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
