‘THEY SABOTAGED MY EVENT’ – UG SRC President Guru Alleges Conspiracy by Fellow Students

University of Ghana (UG) SRC President and popular musician, Guru, has made startling allegations of “deliberate sabotage,” claiming that a group of fellow students actively worked to undermine a major campus event he organized.

During an emotional TikTok Live session, the ‘Lapaz Toyota’ hitmaker revealed that he used his personal connections in the music industry to secure popular Ghanaian artists to perform for free at the SRC Artistes’ Night. However, he alleged that saboteurs spread false rumors that he had taken the performance fees for himself.

“I went through a lot to bring artistes to perform for free. Yet these same people went to tell them I was lying, that I had collected money for the performances and was keeping it,” Guru lamented.

He further claimed that the individuals pressured the event’s main organizer to withdraw support by warning of financial losses. “They went behind my back and told the organiser to pull out, saying he would run at a loss if he invested in the event,” he recounted.

According to Guru, the same critics then mocked the event’s outcome, criticizing the setup and the quality of the artists. He defended the scale of the production by revealing the entire SRC Week had a budget of only GH¢200,000, a sum he argued was inadequate for the “high-quality production” critics expected.

“Do they know how much an A-list artiste like Sarkodie or Black Sherif charges? Look at the budgets for shows like Tidal Rave or Rapperholic,” he stated, urging a realistic understanding of event costs.

The 67th SRC Week, held from August 10th to 16th, 2025, under Guru’s leadership, featured various activities and culminated in a headline performance by Sarkodie. Despite the controversies, Guru maintained that his administration did its best under significant financial and political constraints, insisting the criticism was politically motivated.
