The seasoned Ghanaian actor Alex Kofi Adu, better known by his stage as Agya Koo, has shared details about his friendship-keeping approach.
Agya Koo claimed in an interview with Nana Kwame Adjei Bohyen on Angel FM in Kumasi that he has always been more at ease by himself than with other people, a characteristic that he has carried with him since he was a young child.
He acknowledged that the only person he had ever considered a true friend was Akrobeto, a fellow actor with whom he had a strong relationship in their early filmmaking days.
Agya Koo claimed that despite their friendship becoming more strained over time, Akrobeto still occasionally gets in touch to chat about life and check in.
“Since I was young, I’ve never really had a friend and I do not have any friend. The only person I ever considered a friend, someone I could visit, eat with, and share things like clothes and time with, was Akrobeto. But as life would have it, we don’t meet as often anymore.
“Still, he makes the effort to check on me, and we talk about many things. Honestly, I don’t know how to build friendships or how people just sit around and chat. I’ve never known how that’s done,” he said.
Agya Koo has discussed his reclusive demeanor in the film industry, stating that he avoids social events with colleagues after production is finished and frequently keeps to himself on site.
He describes himself as someone who has been accustomed to being alone, rarely leaving his house and spending much of his time indoors.
He further emphasized his preference for solitude over social contacts by saying that he seldom ever walks outside to “see how the sun looks like.”
