PAC Infractions: I’ll fix the breaches and prevent recurrence — KATH CEO

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has pledged to implement corrective measures to address the audit infractions that led to the hospital’s recent appearance before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament.

Dr. Baidoo said the issues cited in the audit report predated his tenure but assured that his administration is taking decisive steps to rectify them and strengthen the hospital’s governance systems.

“I inherited all the infractions contained in the audit report laid before the committee and as the current CEO of the hospital, I am fully committed to rectifying them and pursuing additional measures to prevent similar ones during my tenure so as to improve the operations of the hospital,” he told local reporters.

At the committee hearing, the hospital’s management was queried over issues relating to unearned salaries, payroll management, and asset registration challenges, among others.

Addressing this, the KATH CEO said he’d made it clear to management and staff upon assuming office that one of his top priorities was to intensify operational and system reforms, optimise revenue generation, reduce waste, and contain cost.

He added that firm instructions have been issued to all directors and line managers to adhere strictly to best practices and ensure full compliance with statutory, regulatory, and audit requirements in their respective departments.

Dr. Baidoo further warned that any director or line manager found culpable for infractions in the future would be personally held accountable.

“I am determined to ensure that the right steps and systems are pursued to resolve the breaches which preceded my assumption of office and implement new controls to prevent their recurrence,” he emphasised.
