Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has called on Ghanaians to play an active role in safeguarding the recent stability of the Ghana cedi, stressing that protecting the national currency is a shared responsibility between government and the public.
Speaking at the launch of the 60th anniversary of the Ghana Cedi in Accra on Tuesday, October 28, he appealed to citizens to treat the cedi with dignity and support measures that preserve its value.
“As citizens, we also have a role to play. We must uphold the sanctity of the cedi as a legal tender by preserving it with dignity and protecting it jealously,” he urged.
While acknowledging the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy, the minister emphasised that maintaining the cedi’s gains requires collective discipline and confidence in the local currency.
Dr. Forson further assured: “I want to use this opportunity to commit that the government of Ghana remains steadfast, and we shall stay the course to ensure that the Ghana cedi remains stable and that the gains we are seeing are maintained.”
