Family will decide on Daddy Lumba widowhood rites – Lawyer

The family of the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba will determine who performs the widowhood rites following the court’s dismissal of an injunction against his funeral, their lawyer has stated.

Immediately after the ruling, the family’s lawyer clarified the next steps, stating, “That is a decision that will be made by the family.

But like I said, that is a determination that the court has declined to make pronouncement on. It is the family, led by Abusuapayin, who will decide as to who will perform the widowhood rights,” he said in a video sighted by Lovinghananews.com.

This statement follows the Kumasi High Court’s decision to dismiss an interlocutory injunction application filed by the musician’s wife, Akosua Serwaa.

She had sought to restrain the family from proceeding with the final funeral rites of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, until certain matters were resolved.

Presiding Judge Dorinda Smith Arthur, in her ruling, affirmed that under Ghanaian customary law, the authority over a corpse rests entirely with the family. She concluded that restraining the family would not serve their benefit or that of the public.

With the legal hurdle removed, Daddy Lumba is expected to be laid to rest on December 6, 2025, as previously announced by the family.
