The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has disclosed that nearly 80,000 passports have been successfully delivered across the country through Ghana Post, the state-owned corporation responsible for postal services, in less than six months in office.

Appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Monday, November 3, 2025, the minister explained that although Ghana Post was not originally responsible for the courier services of the Passport Office, the state-owned company won a bid to handle deliveries in seven regions.

However, he noted that Ghana Post is now handling deliveries in all 16 regions due to its superior infrastructure and nationwide reach.

“Ghana Post has nothing to do with the courier services of the Passport Office. But we asked Ghana Post to put in a bid; they did, and they won the bid to deliver in seven of the 16 regions. However, in reality, Ghana Post is doing the delivery in all 16 regions,” Sam George stated.

He added that even the private companies awarded contracts to deliver passports in other regions rely on Ghana Post’s logistical network to complete deliveries.

“Because of that project, if I am not mistaken, we have delivered about 70,000 to 80,000 passports in less than six months of running these operations,” he said.

The minister further revealed that Ghana Post has expanded its operations and retooled its logistics system, recruiting more young people as delivery riders to meet the growing demand for courier services.

According to him, the partnership between the Passport Office and Ghana Post demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening local institutions and creating employment opportunities while improving public service delivery.
