The Zamfara State Government has concluded plans to sponsor the wedding of 200 orphans, according to the Executive Secretary of the Zakkat and Endowment Board, Malam Habibu Balarabe.
Speaking in Gusau, Balarabe said the ceremony will take place on Monday, 23 November 2025, at the Board’s premises.
He explained that all selected beneficiaries were thoroughly screened before approval. Beyond the mass wedding, the Board will also provide grants to 200 women running small-scale businesses to help strengthen and expand their livelihoods.
Balarabe noted that 100 women recently completed a three-week poultry farming training programme and will receive starter packs to launch their ventures.
He added that the Board has also arranged to settle selected debt cases in Shari’ah Courts and correctional centres across the state.
The Executive Secretary further revealed that several orphans who underwent computer literacy training will receive starter packs during the event.
The initiative forms part of broader state efforts to support vulnerable groups and promote social welfare in Zamfara. Similar programmes have been carried out in other northern states, including Kano, where the government organised a mass wedding for more than 150 disadvantaged couples in 2024.
