The Ghana Gold Board has begun procurement processes to establish an ISO-certified Assay Laboratory aimed at strengthening quality control and eliminating fraud in the country’s gold supply chain.
Chief Executive Officer of the Board, Sammy Gyamfi, announced this at the 2025 Dubai Precious Metals Conference held at the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah Hotel on Monday, November 24, where he highlighted the urgent need to modernise assaying practices within the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.
He noted that despite global advancements in technology, many ASM traders still rely on outdated traditional methods such as water density testing to determine gold purity, a system he said has become a major source of fraud within the ecosystem.
