Investigations reveal that the plot was allegedly coordinated from Togo by a former Burkinabé president. Several suspects who crossed in from Togo have been arrested, and authorities say they confessed to being sent to overthrow the current government and restore the former leader to power.
Following the news, large numbers of Burkinabé citizens poured into the streets to publicly show their loyalty and support for President Traoré.
This incident marks the sixth coup attempt President Ibrahim Traoré has survived since assuming office in 2022.
