Police have arrested one person and placed him into a designated Black Maria after chaos erupted at the NDC party office in Akwatia.

The Black Maria is a police van for transporting prisoners.

The chaos erupted after some NPP supporters were alleged to be removing the NDC candidate’s posters at a polling station.

The swift intervention by the police ensured that voting continued without disruption, and authorities warned that any interference with the electoral process, including acts of intimidation or violence, would be met with strict action.

The by-election follows the death of Ernest Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, necessitating the election of a new representative for the constituency.

oting is underway in Akwatia by-election. Over 50,000 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots in the highly anticipated contest, which has become a major political showdown between the country’s two leading parties.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of the area’s lawmaker, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is being represented by Bernard Bediako Baidoo, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is represented by Solomon Kwame Asumadu.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured political parties, candidates, and voters of a transparent and credible process.

The Ghana Police Service has also deployed more than 5,500 officers across the constituency as part of measures to ensure a peaceful election.

More than 50,000 registered voters are expected to participate in the hotly contested race between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Bernard Bediako Baidoo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Solomon Kwame Asumadu.

Both parties have run vigorous campaigns in recent weeks, supported by senior party officials and national executives who visited the constituency to rally support.

To safeguard the process, the Ghana Police Service has deployed over 5,500 officers across Akwatia, while the Electoral Commission has assured voters of a free, fair, and transparent election.

Residents have been urged to exercise their franchise responsibly and respect electoral rules.
