A military helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has reportedly crashed at Adansi Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region, shortly after going off the radar.

According to eyewitness accounts from the crash site, the helicopter burned beyond recognition, raising serious concerns about the fate of those onboard.

An official press release issued by the Department of Public Relations of the GAF earlier today confirmed that the aircraft identified as Airforce Z9 – took off from Accra at 0912 hours en route to Obuasi, with three crew members and five passengers onboard.

“A GAF helicopter, Z9, that took off this morning… is currently off the radar. All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, indicated.

While the press release was issued before the crash reports emerged, local sources in Adansi Akrofrom have confirmed the wreckage of the helicopter in a heavily burned state, making identification of victims difficult.

Emergency services have reportedly arrived at the scene, and a full-scale military and forensic investigation is expected to begin immediately.

The GAF is yet to officially confirm the crash but is expected to provide updates soon.
