Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is rallying the nation following news of a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight officials, including two Cabinet Ministers.

The deceased include:
• Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
• Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
• Alhaji Muniru Mohammed
• Dr. Samuel Sarpong
• Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
• Sergeant Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
• Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
• Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

The Vice-President chaired a Security meeting at the Presidency that included Ministers and heads of the Armed Forces, as the government prepared to officially announce the deaths of the eight individuals aboard the military helicopter.

Following a public announcement by the Chief of Staff, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led a government delegation to the home of the late Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, who was also the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.

Accompanied by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, and Deputy Minister for Lands Yusif Sulemana, the Vice-President also visited the residence of Alhaji Lemuna, the Deputy Acting National Security Advisor who also perished in the crash.

Earlier on Thursday, the Vice-President joined the President in laying wreaths in honour of the fallen officials who died in the line of duty.

The tragic military helicopter crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. It has reportedly claimed the lives of eight individuals, including prominent government officials and military personnel.

President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025, in honour of the victims of the crash.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, the President also announced the immediate suspension of all his scheduled activities and public engagements for the remainder of the week.

National flags are to be flown at half-mast across the country until further notice, as the nation comes to terms with this devastating loss.
