Actress and socialite-turned-singer Efia Odo has launched a critique against Ghana’s music industry, attributing its slow progress to widespread selfishness and lack of unity among artists.
In an interview with Ghana Weekend, the entertainer emphasized that true advancement would only come when musicians stop competing as rivals and start working collaboratively as a collective force.
“If I could change one thing about the Ghanaian music industry, it would be how we relate with each other. Everybody is doing selfish things. We are a collective, the music is for the people, not for us. We need to support each other more,” Efia Odo stated.
She argued that strategic collaboration could significantly expand the industry’s reach and opportunities, using her own social media presence as an example: “If I have 100,000 followers and another artiste has 100,000, and we share each other’s work, it only expands our reach. But selfishness is holding us back.”
The entertainer also revealed she has shifted her focus entirely to music, archiving previous content from her social media pages to present a more intentional and focused artistic identity.
Efia Odo stressed that her comments come from a genuine desire to see the industry thrive collectively rather than from personal interest, highlighting the need for a more unified approach to elevate Ghanaian music on the global stage.
