The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for stronger measures to end illegal mining, warning that the galamsey menace is destroying the nation.

Speaking at the 29th GJA Awards, he described the situation as “a mafia-like operation” that could soon engulf the entire country if left unchecked.

Otumfuo criticised political leaders for failing to act decisively, saying votes and politics have weakened the fight against galamsey.

He urged the government to take firm action, warning that Ghana risks complicity if the issue is not tackled urgently.
