Manhyia Palace fines Lumba’s family head two sheep over invocation of ‘Great Oath’

The family head of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, Kofi Owusu, has been fined two sheep by the Manhyia Palace following the invocation of the Great Oath of the Asantehene by the musician’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa.

The incident occurred during a court hearing on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in a case filed by Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, challenging who should be recognised as his lawful spouse.

After the court proceedings, Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, invoked the Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ), which compelled the case to be referred to the Manhyia Palace for traditional adjudication, as required by Asante custom and tradition.

At the hearing presided over by the Saamanhene and other chiefs at the Manhyia Palace, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu was fined two sheep for failing to counter the invocation of the Great Oath by the late musician’s sister.

According to Asante custom and tradition, cases involving the Great Oath must be resolved at the Manhyia Palace, as courts are not empowered to handle them.

The sheep were to be used by the chiefs to perform purification rites to revoke the oath and avert any potential spiritual repercussions.

Meanwhile, the court hearing is expected to continue on November 12, 2025, for further hearings.
