NDC contradicts itself on presidential jet – Dr. Kyei Brobbey

Dr. Ishaq Kyei Brobbey has raised concerns about the proposed purchase of a new presidential jet, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of shifting its stance on the matter.

The Senior lecturer at Kumasi Technical University and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) argued that Ghana would have been spared certain tragedies if past governments, particularly the NDC, had made investment decisions earlier.

“If previous governments had invested in military aircraft and a reliable presidential jet over the past one and a half years, the state—or the NDC—would be reaping the benefits by now. Perhaps we wouldn’t have witnessed the tragic helicopter crash that claimed several lives, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah,” he said on Movement TV

He further pointed out that the controversy surrounding the new purchase might have escalated if not for the intervention of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“If not for Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s intervention in this presidential issue, the opposition would have rejected the idea of purchasing a new jet entirely,” Dr. Brobbey added.

According to him, the inconsistency in the NDC’s position on the presidential jet highlights a contradiction between their approach in opposition and their current stance.

“If previous governments—particularly the NDC—had prioritized acquiring a modern presidential jet and military aircraft within the last one and a half years, the country would have been benefiting from those assets by now,” he stressed.
