ARNE SLOT slammed his Liverpool players for being “too offensively-minded” after crashing to their first Prem defeat of the season.

The Reds thought they had nicked a pointed with Federico Chiesa’s 87th-minute strike off the bench cancelling out Ismaila Sarr’s early opener for Crystal Palace.

But with the last kick of the game, Eddie Nketiah snatched a 97th-minute winner for the Eagles to down the reigning champions after starting the campaign with five straight wins.

Nketiah was left unmarked at the back post to volley in after Liverpool failed to clear a long throw in the dying moments.

And manager Slot – who appeared to be referencing full-back Jeremie Frimpong – raged: “We can only blame ourselves. Defending the way we did.

“One of our players decided to run out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up.

“It was only about defending. Maybe we were too offensively minded. One player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner and us losing the game.”

Liverpool could have been trailing by several goals at half-time following a woeful first half that saw keeper Alisson make numerous top saves to keep the visitors in the game.

It is becoming a regular theme for Slot’s men this term, who have now conceded seven goals in their opening six games – including four in their opening two Prem clashes of the season.

Slot continued: “There was only one team that deserved to win and that was Palace.

“A disappointing first half and disappointing end of the game. Again, once again, credit to Palace. It’s not the first time we lose against them, It tells you how difficult it is for us.

“They deserved to be up two or three goals in the first half. We were lucky that Alisson helped us.”
