Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund, Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw-Kotei, has revealed that she never envisioned herself entering active politics despite her long-standing association with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on the Upside Down Show on Channel One TV on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Dr Bissiw-Kotei recounted how her political journey was born out of passion for the NDC rather than a desire to hold public office.
“I remember I wanted to find out where the NDC office was in Tema West, but you see, I wasn’t going there because I thought I was going to get into politics. To be very sincere with you, it was the last thing I thought of,” she said.
She explained that her early involvement with the party dates back to her student days in Cuba, where she was an active member of the 31st December Women’s Movement.
“I love the party because when we were in Cuba, I was part of the young women who were part of the 31st Women’s Movement, and we used to pay our small dues, and then we used to buy exercise books and pencils and stuff for the KGs of the 31st Women’s Movement,” Dr Bissiw-Kotei recalled.
Dr Bissiw-Kotei stressed that her passion for the NDC was rooted in service and support rather than personal ambition, adding that her eventual rise in politics was an unexpected outcome of her commitment to the party’s values.
