Ghana thrash Central African Republic to inch closer to World Cup qualification

Ghana’s Black Stars defeated the Central African Republic by five unanswered goals to place one foot in the 2026 World Cup.
Otto Addo’s men run riot in the second half at Stade D’Honneur de Meknes in Morocco after taking a 1-0 lead at recess. They scored four more in the second half to win 5-0.
Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring in the 21st minute when he connected perfectly with a Mohammed Kudus corner kick. The Black Stars started the game on the front foot and could have scored more in the first half, but failed to convert the rest of their six shots on target.
After the break, Ghana continued their dominance on the ball with 65% possession and looked more threatening in the final third.
That dominance was rewarded seven minutes into the second half when captain Jordan Ayew split the Fauves’ defense with a through ball to Thomas Partey. The Villarreal midfielder hit a powerful shot, which deflected to extend their lead.

Nine minutes after the hour mark, defender Alexander Djiku headed home the third from an Ayew corner kick. The skipper was not walking away without being on the scoresheet after setting up two goals.
The Leicester City forward struck home the fourth from close range after Gideon Mensah’s delivery got past a few blue shirts. Joseph Paintsil dazzled his way into the box to set up in-form Kamaldeen Sulemana, who tapped in from the back post.
Ghana now lead Group I with 22 points but must wait until Sunday, when they host Comoros, to confirm their qualification after Madagascar moved to 19 points with a 2-1 win over Comoros.
The Black Stars will play the Coelacanths at 7PM local time on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
