Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are set to ballot for their positions on the ballot paper on Friday, October 10, 2025, ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The exercise, to be conducted by the National Elections Committee, will bring together the five aspirants or their representatives at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.

Speaking on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed that only aspirants who have satisfied the party’s requirements will participate.

“All candidates who have met the guidelines, as issued on July 29, and complied with them, will be balloting today. Nobody is going to be excused from any specific guideline of the party,” Mr. Mohammed stated.

He stressed that the procedures are in line with the party’s constitution and binding on all contestants.

“These guidelines are grounded in the constitution, and every member who wants to lead the party into the 2028 elections must abide by it,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Communications Director for Kwabena Agyepong’s campaign team, Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, has reiterated that Mr. Agyepong remains fully committed to the race despite ongoing debate over a GH₵4 million development fee.

“The issue regarding this GH₵4 million payment — he has made it clear that, in principle, he is against it. The party has made its point, and they are saying that they have to pay that amount,” Mr. Dowuona explained.

He said Mr. Agyepong had clarified his position during vetting, stressing that while he opposed making the payment a precondition for contesting, he was ready to support the party in other ways.

“At vetting, he was asked, and he made his position clear, and even at the vetting, he committed that if it were about a development fee, he would contribute substantially to the development of the party when the need arises. His issue has always been that it shouldn’t be a prerequisite for contesting the flagbearership of the party,” he said.

The five aspirants vying for the party’s presidential slot are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyepong.

The outcome of Friday’s balloting will determine the order in which their names will appear on the ballot paper during the NPP’s flagbearer election.
