The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Hon. Solomon Brako, has revealed that mining companies currently operating in Akim Oda do not possess valid licenses and are not registered in the records of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly.

Speaking on Akyem Oda Community Radio (103.3 FM) during the Yɛbɛ Som show, Hon. Brako disclosed that his checks at the Minerals Commission confirmed that no registered mining companies have been authorized to operate within the municipality.

He expressed deep concern over the illegal mining activities taking place in the area, noting that such operations not only violate Ghana’s mining laws but also pose serious threats to the environment, water bodies, and farmlands.

According to the MCE, the Assembly will intensify collaboration with the Minerals Commission, security agencies, and traditional authorities to clamp down on the unlicensed operators and restore order in the mining sector within the municipality.

Hon. Brako further cautioned individuals and groups involved in illegal mining to desist from the act, emphasizing that the Assembly will not tolerate any form of unauthorized mining activities that endanger the lives and livelihoods of residents.

He also called on the people of Akim Oda to support the Assembly’s efforts by volunteering information on the activities and locations of illegal miners, adding that protecting the environment and ensuring lawful mining practices is a shared responsibility.

The revelation has sparked public discussion within the municipality, with many residents urging the authorities to take swift action to address the situation before it causes further environmental damage.
