Former Director of the National Service Authority, Osei Assibey Antwi
Lawyer for former Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, has told the Accra High Court that his client has not been served with the chargesheet against him.
Paa Kwesi Kuboadzi also indicated that they were not given the hearing notice for the case early, hence the failure of the former NSA boss to show up in court.
He explained that Osei Assibey Antwi reports to investigators in Kumasi every Monday, apart from the first Monday of the month, when he comes to the NIB in Accra
Presiding judge Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie then ordered the prosecution, led by the Director of Public Prosecution, Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa to ensure they are served with the charges and a hearing notice.
Meanwhile, DPP Attakorah Obuobisa also indicated that in the matter of the former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority, Gifty Oware, a two-day medical excuse duty had been sent, hence she would not be coming to court.
Osei Assibey Antwi has been charged with 14 counts of offences, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, and money laundering.
Per the case of prosecutors, the former NSA boss allegedly approved payments to over 60,000 ghost national service personnel and misappropriated public funds during his tenure between August 2021 and February 2025.
His deputy, Gifty Oware, on the other hand, is facing multiple charges, including stealing, money laundering, and abuse of office.
According to the brief facts, the former Deputy Director of the Service misappropriated about GH¢38.46 million between February 2022 and March 2024, while supervising finance, audit, and procurement at the Authority.
The prosecution further averred that Gifty Oware transferred GH¢31.5 million from a loan facility for NSS personnel into the account of her private firm, Blocks of Life Consult, under the guise of supplying goods on a hire-purchase arrangement.
