Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called out what he described as chiefs who smile with him but harbor ill intentions behind closed doors.
He didn’t mince words at the Asanteman Council meeting on Thursday, October 16,2025, invoking the sacred Golden Stool itself as the ultimate punisher of those pretending to support him while secretly working against him.
The Golden Stool represents the soul and unity of the Asante Kingdom, making the Monarch’s invocation significant.
“Most of you smile with me, pretending to love me but have negative motive towards me”, Asantehene said.
He stated that the Golden Stool would deal with whoever feigns affection for him, making clear his frustration with what he sees as endemic disloyalty within the traditional hierarchy.
He mentioned specific cases that seem to have pushed him to his public ridicule, observing that chiefs who sat through Council meetings on controversial cases involving the Offinso and Sampa stools went silent when those decisions faced public scrutiny. No one stepped up to defend the verdicts they’d all agreed upon, leaving Asantehene to face the backlash alone.
“All of us sat here and delivered verdicts on both cases, but when issues cropped up, no one came out to defend the decisions. Your behaviour sounds like, “Do it alone’, and I will definitely do it. Many of you secretly spread falsehoods about me outside,” he stated.
He appealed to the traditional authorities to act with focus and integrity on the interest of Asante Kingdom.
The event also coincided with the swearing in the Kwamanghene.
The newly enstooled Paramount Chief of Sekyere Kwamang in the Asante Kingdom, Nana Debra Boateng Bediako II, officially swore an oath of allegiance to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace on Thursday, October 16,2025.
He fulfilled traditions and customs to have his reign recognised at the Manhyia Palace.
He was accompanied to the palace by his linguists and other royals.
“I am a testament to your truthfulness and honesty. I vow to emulate you and rule in truth just as you do,” he vowed as he held the Mponponsuo sword before Otumfuo.
With elegance and royal dignity, Nana Debra Boateng Bediako II, performed the traditional kete dance before the Golden Stool, signifying to Asanteman that his installation as the new Paramount Chief of Sekyere Kwamang has been completed and blessed by Otumfuo.
Seated regally in his palanquin, Nana Debra was carried through the forecourt of Manhyia Palace with majestic poise, his presence commanding reverence and pride from all gathered to witness his first public appearance as Sekyere Kwamanghene.
Amid the beating of drums and the cheers of the crowd, Nana was lifted high in his palanquin, moving with majestic grace- a true symbol of royal authority and the continuity of Kwamang’s noble lineage.
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, used the occasion to caution fake chiefs among Asanteman Council.
