Cedi is stabilizing, inflation down, life affordable — Ayariga celebrates Mahama’s achievements

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has commended President John Dramani Mahama’s administration for what he describes as a strong and steady performance in its first ten months in office.

Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Ayariga said the government’s policies have led to economic recovery, currency stability, and affordable living for Ghanaians.

“Mr. Speaker, I am proud to say that so far, so excellent. The energy sector is doing very well and electricity has remained on empowering growth. So far, so excellent. The economy is rebounding and Ghana once again, is gaining economic respectability globally. So far, so excellent,” he declared.

He lauded the progress in the financial sector, highlighting the strengthening of the cedi and the reduction in inflation.

“The Ghana cedi is gaining strength and stabilizing. So far, so excellent. Inflation has come down to single digit and prices are coming down and life is becoming affordable to the ordinary Ghanaian. So far, so excellent,” he repeated with emphasis.

Ayariga also reflected on the composition of the current Parliament, noting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) now enjoys a commanding presence in the House.

“With these two elections and the one that took place in Ablekuma, the House is fully constituted. The Independent Members of this House remain 4. The NPP which previously had a micro minority of 88 members has had its number shrink further to 87,” he observed.

In a lighter moment, the Majority Leader took a linguistic jab at the opposition’s dwindling numbers.

“Mr. Speaker, I believe they are no longer a micro minority but a minuscule Minority. Micro could actually be a large number because micro is a unit of measurement.

“In English when you want to describe something as very small, you say minuscule,” he remarked, drawing laughter in the chamber.

He concluded with confidence in the NDC’s parliamentary dominance.

“The NDC super majority will balloon to 185, and when we add the four independent members who have agreed to do business with us, the NDC would become a gargantuan majority,” Ayariga said.
