Ghana has signed an agreement with The Bahamas to make it easier for Ghanaian teachers and nurses to work in the Caribbean nation.
The deal, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding, was signed by Minister for Special Initiatives Emmanuel Agyekum, who was joined by Mr. Nelson Ndebah Ndebugre from the Office of the President.
During the visit, Mr. Agyekum met with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward “Brave” Davis to strengthen ties between the two countries and promote cooperation in education, healthcare, and skills exchange.
The first stage of the partnership will see experienced Ghanaian teachers and nurses recruited to work in The Bahamas. The initiative aims to give Ghanaian professionals international work experience while supporting The Bahamas with skilled educators and healthcare workers.
Minister Agyekum described the agreement as a “win-win” for both countries, highlighting the international confidence in the expertise and professionalism of Ghanaian workers.
He emphasised that the welfare and safety of recruited personnel will be fully protected, and that the recruitment process will be transparent and fair.
The MoU also sets the stage for future collaboration in areas such as commerce, tourism, culture, and human capital development.
Minister Agyekum thanked the Bahamian government for its cooperation, noting that the partnership reflects Ghana’s commitment to expanding global opportunities for its skilled workforce.
“This agreement builds a bridge of opportunity between our nations and strengthens our shared goals,” he said.
