Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says Ghana’s support for President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan is consistent with President John Dramani Mahama’s UN message calling for an end to the suffering of civilians and restoration of peace.
Speaking on TV3 monitored by Lovinghananews.com, he said the peace initiative could help stop the carnage and pave the way for rebuilding.
The Foreign Affairs Minister explained that Mahama’s message was firm, quoting the president; “The crimes in Gaza must stop.”
Ablakwa said Ghana welcomed Trump’s involvement because “the Trump administration wields tremendous influence on Israeli politics and Prime Minister Netanyahu listens to President Trump.”
He described the peace proposal as “an olive branch being extended” that calls for hostages to be released, safe passage for Hamas leaders, and a pathway to a two-state solution.
Ablakwa stressed that the decision does not alter Ghana’s balanced diplomacy, saying “we will not cut ties with the Israelis nor stay away from the Palestinians.
“We seek to be friends of all and enemies to none.” He maintained that unity, pressure for peace, and fidelity to international law are guiding Ghana’s approach.
