Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described President John Dramani Mahama’s recent address at the UN as a defining moment for Black pride and African confidence on the world stage.
He said the message had “restored the image of the Black race” and given Africans renewed esteem in an interview on TV3 monitored by Lovinghananews.
According to him, “If there has been any speech on the world stage in recent times that has restored the image of the Black race, that has lifted high the spirit of the African people and really elevated our consciousness and dignity, it is this address by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.”
He noted that the global praise that followed was expected, adding that analysts describe it as “one of the most consequential UN speeches ever delivered.”
Ablakwa argued that Mahama chose substance over bland diplomacy, saying “he did not embarrass us, did not let us down, did not just make those mundane statements that will not give us the respect and honour we deserve.”
He stressed that Africans across the continent felt represented and heard, reinforcing Ghana’s standing as a moral voice in global affairs.
