OSP probe flawed; other investigative bodies would’ve done better – SML

Lawyer for Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), Cephas Boyuo, has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over what he described as a poorly conducted investigation into the company’s revenue assurance contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Friday, Mr Boyuo said the OSP’s findings lacked accuracy and depth, suggesting that other investigative bodies would have produced a more professional and credible report.

“If other investigative institutions had done this investigation, I’m sure they would have done better and I’m not surprised that the Attorney General requested for the docket,” he said.

He continued: “You see, because the Dominic Ayine we all know is too meticulous, he will not allow such things. I mean he will not churn out such a report. He will never do that. Before he speaks, he knows exactly what he is going to talk about. He will not conjecture, he will not insinuate. SML has built on their reputation and they are still in the process of building, and you just use few minutes to say all kinds of things against the company.”

The OSP had alleged procurement breaches, political interference, and possible corruption in the award of SML’s contracts with the GRA — claims the company has consistently denied.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) began investigating the SML-GRA contract earlier this year following widespread public concern about its legality, procurement breaches, and value for money.

The OSP said its investigation established that there was no genuine need for contracting SML to perform the obligations outlined in the agreements.

“The contracts were secured for SML through self-serving official patronage, sponsorship and promotion based on false and unverified claims,” Kissi Agyebeng said.
