Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Kwadwo Baffoe Bonnie, has revealed the reason behind the 70-year prison sentence he handed to notorious armed robber Ataa Ayi years ago.
According to him, the decision was influenced by concerns for personal safety and public protection. “If I had given him 30 years, I’d probably be the first person he’d come after when he got out,” he said.
Justice Baffoe Bonnie added that by the time Ataa Ayi completes his sentence, he (the judge) would likely be long gone, making the punishment both symbolic and practical.
