The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has assured Parliament that President John Dramani Mahama will fully respect any ruling by the courts regarding the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

Speaking on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Dr. Ayine dismissed Minority claims that the appointment of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice could lead to legal complications.

“The Minority, with all the experienced lawyers that they have, including the Minority Leader himself, should know that if the Supreme Court comes up with its decision saying that the process of the removal of the Chief Justice was without legal grounds, the President will have no option but to obey the order of the court,” he added.

The Minority caucus on Monday, November 11, 2025, opted out of the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, citing ongoing legal challenges to the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo pending before the Supreme Court, High Court, and ECOWAS Court.

The Minority warned that moving forward with the appointment while these cases remain unresolved could trigger a constitutional crisis should the courts rule in favour of the former Chief Justice.

However, Dr. Dominic Ayine rejected claims of impropriety, affirming that the appointment process had been conducted fully within the bounds of the law.
