toward Abu Francis and the Ghana team after the challenge that led to Abuβs injury.
Ao Tanaka, visibly remorseful and full of sadness following the incident, immediately went over to apologize to Abu Francis.
After he was substituted, he also made his way to Ghana coach Otto Addo to express his apology once again.
The level of respect and empathy the Japanese player showed is undisputed. Their upbringing reflects deeply in their manners toward humanity.
Speaking to the press after the match, Tanaka expressed deep regret over the challenge that injured the Black Stars midfielder.
Otto Addo applauded Tanaka and the Japanese culture for the gesture. He said:
βI really appreciate that Tanaka comes not only to our player to say sorry for what happened but also comes to me as a coach. We do not take this kind of behaviour for granted. I think it is a very very good education here in Japan. For the players, just to say sorry means a lot and I told him I really appreciate thatβ.
